Product description

Seasoned, ready to use. This 12 inch skillet is a kitchen's most essential item. The even heating of cast iron is necessary for golden, tender, perfectly pan-fried chicken. What other cookware can rival the heat retention, versatility, value and durability of cast iron.

Pancakes, eggs, and bacon somehow taste extra hearty when cooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp in this generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting, and two subtle side lips for pouring. While the skillet comes preseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations.--Ann Bieri

« Amazon has a problem packing this item. »
I am sorry I gave this one star. My other Lodge products are very good. Problem is Amazon packed this poorly, and the handle cracked during shipment...TWICE.
The first time the handle cracked off. Then the replacement the handle stayed on, but there is a very visible and significant crack in same area!!!

They were shipped in a box that allowed movement of about two inches side to side, with padding only on top.

    Very disappointed in Amazon.

    « It will rust »
If rust forms on the skillet, it will be toxic, and it will give one brain damage. That is a fact. Now we know that Lodge Logic has its employees post comments and acting as customers saying that rust is good for you and so forth. This is the same technique Toyota uses to have its people write on automotive blogs saying that Toyota cars are safe and no one has ever died in one due to defects. There have been serious cases of illness from using these pans.

    Season it well and
Cook the best corn bread in town.
    Lasts longer than you.

« Sold on cast iron »
A few years back, I tentatively tried a cast iron kettle. I was hesitant because I found the reviews to be so varied. But after trying it, I decided I love cast iron! My husband gave me this skillet as a birthday gift, and I love it as much as my kettle. I've found the best way to take care of cast iron is to put it in the oven for about 5 minutes after washing, to ensure that all moisture is gone and it won't rust. Then, after completely cooling, put a little vegetable oil on a rag and wipe the skillet with it. Even if it says, "pre-seasoned," I find that it's a good idea to rub it with oil the first several times you use it.

    « Great skillet »
Very good skillet. Very heavy heats evenly. Easy to clean. Food tastes better.
Just rinse it out and dry it on the stove. Turn on the heat for a minute and then let it cool.
Spray it with pam or rub it with a little cooking oil. Very best way to cook.
Same as large 15 but not as heavy made to cook lees food in it obviously.
